The Psychoanalytic Association of Uruguay (APU) is a non-profit institution founded in 1955, and is a Component Society of the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA) and the Psychoanalytical Federation of Latin America (FEPAL).
APU's training institute of psychoanalysts, with 50 years of history, was credited by the Uruguayan Ministry of Education and Culture with the "Institute of Postgraduate Teaching" accreditation, and has offered the university postgraduate certificate "Master in Psychoanalysis" since 2004.
Among the APU's objectives are:
a) research, teaching and development of the science of psychoanalysis (by Sigmund Freud);
b) training of psychoanalysts;
c) realisation and promotion of outreach and community services;
d) realisation of scientific and cultural research, and with other schools both public and private, national and international exchanges;
e) enunciation and guardianship of the principles of ethics and professional conduct of its members.
