In 1934 the Norwegian Psychoanalytic Society was recognised by the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA). During the German occupation the union dissolved, but was re-established shortly after the war.
The Association's purpose is to promote psychoanalysis by exchanging ideas nationally and internationally, and be responsible for training and continuing education.
Psychoanalysis in Norway is rooted in Freud's fundamental discoveries, but is open and oriented towards new realisations based on psychoanalytic and other research.
